Re connection problems
I have no problems with the first log on to the internet each day, but on the second or subsequent attempts everything works as usual and I am connected to my ISP but cannot surf or download e-mail. On these occasions I find in Task Manager/Networking that there are 2 instances of my ISP: one says "connected" and one says "non operational". A restart will always correct the position but is very frustrating.
I have tried reinstalling the modem, a different modem, a different ISP,different browser, disabling every program I can find that looks for automatic updates......etc Can anyone please suggest a cure Windows XP Home, 56k dial up, IE6,Firefox,OE6, Thunderbird |

How are you disconnecting? You should be right clicking on the DUN monitor in the systray and selecting Disconnect. In control panel, Internet Options, Connections, set it to never dial a connection, connect by using a shortcut to the connection instead of opening IE or whatever first and letting the dialer do its own thing.

I have now tried disabling flow control in modem properties, disabling the internet time synchronisation and of course glc's workaround above but all to no avail.
Any more suggestions, please |

How long ago did this behavior start? If within a reasonable timeframe, you could try system recovery.
