strange IE6/scanner prob

after starting up my system, i open up IE and if i select an old site from the dropdown menu in address bar, i get my scanner starting up.
like there is a strange link between the browser drop down menu arrow button and the trigger to start the scanner!?!
i think i will re install the scanner software eventually but i just seems a bit weird to me.
the scanner is a canon canoscan lide 30 (USB)
any ideas?

Look around in the Canon toolbox settings - you may have linked IE to an event somehow.
