Annoying Disconnection Problem
Ok well I noticed this last night to start with. I would be browsing a site and then my internet would just kinda stop. MSN was still functional, but Firefox refused to load up any page I sent it towards. The first way to solve it was by a restart, but then I remembered some command promt command, being ipconfig /renew. After that it works.
Anyone know why my computer would just start doing that? It would be great to resolve the problem, seeing as how I don't want to have to keep typing ipconfig /renew every 5-10 minutes. Thanks ![]() PS-It just did it again.... |

What are you using to connect? Router? Modem? Combination of the two? Have you run any spyware/virus scans lately?

What's the brand and model of the router? Have you tried going into Internet Tools and putting certain settings back to their defaults?

Netgear. Not sure of the model. I am unsure of how it could have much of an influence though, unless someone else changed settings on it the same settings are on there as there were 2, 4, 7 months ago. Oh and the only settings I changed were those pertaining to account info, so changing back to deafults is a no go
![]() PS-Ill look at the model later. Going to be gone for 3 weeks though so I figure if it just started outa no where, maybe it will go away. Oh and it's also kinda late(2:45ish) and I am trying to spend the most time I can talking to friends and stuff before I leave. Apperently taking the 2 minutes to find it is to much of a hastle... I guess I get kinda uuhhh... whats the word... ok I guess I dont make much sense in my actions before such a long trip. Oh well.

Frequently dropped connections usually point to the router. I had connection problems with a linksys I was using a while back. Gave up on it and bought a Dlink and *poof*--no more frequent connection drops.
If you can, try going around the router and see how your connection does. If your connection doesn't drop, then it's a router problem. You could either do a firmware upgrade, a full reset, or just break down and buy a new router. Make sure you jot down your settings if you try any of these.

As soon as I get back I will try it, although the idea that the router would just fail me after a full year is baffling
Hope that's not the case and it was just a going away present for me
