Help getting laptop to connect to my PC via Internet
As the title indicates, I've got a laptop that is running Win-2000 that when I travel I'd like to access my home PC via the internet.
I've got two PC's at home (one running XP-Pro the other XP-Home) connected to a Linksys WRT54G (Wireless/wireline Router) with a DSL connection via SBC. I've set my two home PC's up so they see each other on my home network. The Linksys router has the following settings: Operating Mode - Gateway DDNS - Disabled Connection Type - PPPoE Firewall Protection - Enabled Remote Management - Disabled On the laptop I tried to establish a VPN connection, but quite frankly I'm not sure which IP address to use. I tried most of them but they don't seem to work. There are so many different IP addresses (DHCP Server, Client Host for my two PC's, Default Gateway, DNS, Subnet mask, etc.) I'm not sure which is the right one. I also went through a similar process on my home PC telling it to allow my username to remote access my computer. After doing this to both the laptop and the Home PC it still doesn't work. When I try to access my home PC from the laptop it says, "The modem or other connecting device has reported an error", when I click more info it says, "if this is a VPN connection you may have specified an incorrect TCP/IP address". Quite frankly I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing. I could use some help. Thanks Steven |

"Firewall Protection - Enabled" This is going to help!
My linksys router specifically states that it’s a VPN Endpoint. I didn’t see anything like that on their website about yours. Don't know if there's a work around.. Have you considered remote desktop sharing? |

Are you saying it won't work if a firewall is enabled? I'm not all that knowledgable about how routers work, firewalls, etc.
Thanks |

VPN connections work on certain ports. You'll need to make sure that the firewall isn't blocking that port.
