Firefox --- MyIE2

I know a lot of people are raving about Firefox, but has anyone tried MyIE2 ?? I've read some good reviews on it and it seems to have some nice features. One neat feature is that you can save your current workspace so that you can come back later and open all the same sites with just a click of the mouse (like if you were searching for the best airline tickets or the like).

The real question is why are you trying out Firefox over IE. To most people they have made the switch away from IE in response to recent reports of vulnerabilities; NOT for the features that Firefox or any alternative browser.
Yes MyIE2 is a very well featured browser, but accurately it is a browser shell; meaning it runs the IE engine that is installed on your computer. It has greater privacy protection, which in turn prevents you from getting spyware; however it does not protect you from the more serious vulnerabilities out there. It's like using Eudora to check mail but turning on the IE viewer. There are a number of browsers out there that come loaded with more features and more skins and look prettier than IE, but you should look at the fundamental reason for switching from IE .. is it because you need more features or because the in-the-wild vulnerabilities aren't patched.

I have use MyIE2 in the past, but I prefer to use Firefox for its features, I have used this browser on and off since the days of Firebird, but the security vulnerabilities confirmed my use of Firefox.

But the newest version of firefox, mozilla there is a security flaw. Fixed already. But I find the new f 0.92 not great, lots of bugs. Still sticking with f 0.8

The new flaw was fixed by a security patch that came out the day the flaw was discovered. It's fixed and secure now. plus .9.2 comes with the patch.

Good question. I know there has been several threads on the "drop IE" topic recently, but no, I'm not considering switching for security reasons. I am considering using something else just for features and to see something different for a change. I used to use Netscape exclusively all the through 4.7x but switched to IE after AOL took Netscape over. In fact, my "other browser" is still Netscape 4.75.

Then by all means that is the browser for you, because it does what you wish for in a browser.
(Again I am not one who believes in rebelling against the empire or sticking up for the littlest guy .. I'm very selfish about my software & hardware doing what I wish them to do ..)

Now, I would also suggest you go through the extensions list for Firefox as it will let you do nearly all things that every browser does. One feature that you mention "saving session" is an extension on Firefox http://texturizer.net/firefox/extensions/#sessionsaver
Quote:
....
Remembers loaded tabs and their history items when Firefox is manually closed, then restores the tabs and history items when next started. The saved session can also be manually restored or updated at any later time via the items in the File menu.
....
Firefox uses extensions rather than providing all the features, because (a) at the heart of it, its designed to be very lightweight and nimble, while you may like certain features some others might not, extensions allows one to customize it as s/he sees fit (b) it also allows a lot of people making extensions that they want to share.

Its great that you are sticking to the old favorites, personally I am not a proponent of that method; I would like browsers to be able to read through the newest standards on the WWW or the newest features, hence I am always upgrading major versions. I did the switch from NS about the same time as IE, tried that last version for the heck of it, just so I could hate the "AOL browser"

Cheers

I agree with TwoRails. The driving force behind my change to Firefox, is just for the sweet hell of it.

PS: is MyIE2 easily removed? (Just-n-case...)

That security flaw is somehow a flaw in Windows and not Firefox, MSN Messenger and Word are both affected by it, and there is no patch from MS, at least Firefox got its patch the same day.

SP2 RC2 fixes the whole shell: protocol issue, BTW.

IE bites! Firefox runs "flawlessly" on my system! I'll never use anything but Firefox!
