Maybe Firefox problem, maybe not

I'm using Firefox 0.8 and after about a couple of hours or so I would get a message that says Firefox has caused an error and will now close. If I just re-start Firefox sometimes I could go on for another half an hour and the same message appears. If I reboot, Firefox would be stable for another couple of hours before that message appears.

A couple of hours at a time is usually all I use to surf the net, but it is still a nuisance.

I'm using a laptop with 196mb of ram. Could it be that Firefox is slowly hogging up more and more resources until the laptop resources finally run out after a couple of hours?

Windows 98 doesn't have the best memory management. Having to reboot every few hours due to low resources is very common and doesn't have anything to do with Firefox. Rebooting is a pain, but it is really the only solution. You can try to reduce the number of programs running in the background to perhaps delay the inevitable, though.

I'm running FF0.8 with 98SE with no problems albeit I have 512MB RAM. As DoctorGonzo said, Shut down any programs you aren't using to improve memory.

Did you havce to restart as often using I.E.?or did this problem start after installing some other browser or did you maybe install some other software lately that may be running in the background eating up resources?

Interesting that you mention IE. I'm using Firefox because IE would frequently crash with the infamous mshtml error. To make long story short, I used to have WinMe and the mshtml error made it impossible to use IE. Changed to W98se and the mshtml error occurred less often, but still there. Changed to Firefox and not more mshtml error. The only glitch is this need to reboot after every couple of hours of browsing. I do have a virus program running at all times. I will disable it to see if that helps.

I wouldn't disable your antivirus; that could cause more problems than it solves. Is getting more memory an option?
