Does anyone know if the military or Dept. of Defense offers a free ISP to veterans or retired personnel?

Carl, I checked below link and came up empty. In the past they were always thorough on free ISP's. Good question though. Seems there would/should be.

Thanks for searching and the link, Sarge. Just trying to line things up for the in-laws. My father-in-law is retired Navy and he thought the DOD might have an ISP.

There are some veterans groups that offer local members free access. I know here in Lansing they have something like that. I've also seen the same in AZ, FL and CA in various local communities.

Hey Craig -
Can you give me some more info about the military thing in Lansing? I am in Lansing as well and also lost my DSL connection this week. (I know about the free local access # for telocity, but the military thing sounds pretty cool). Thankx! Mel! |

Try the local VFW in Lansing; the old geezers should know, or be able to refer you.

Hi Mel,
I don't recall who offers it -- I just remember editing a story back when I workd for WLAJ and that was well over 2 years ago. The story never made it to air so I doubt there is a tape archive or I'd call J.Parker and see if someone could look it up. I do recall that it was specific to veterans -- so maybe the VFW would know like Sarge said. You could also try MichNET as I think they were the backbone provider for the service. Biggest problem there is they are also MSU's backbone -- hence my reason for wanting to get my DSL back!! Everyone 'loves' having free access via MSU -- that is only if they live in the dorms with 10Mbps ethernet. Everyone with dialup to MSU's modems have to compete with students in the dorms hogging bandwidth as they download mp3's, movies and warez. Good luck with your search. -Craig |
