integrating/synchronizing email
Could someone tell me how you can synchcronize your email between your laptop and desktop? I have a friend who is running the Mozilla mail program (not sure of its exact name) and I am running Microsoft Outlook. Now I imagine with MS Outlook, there must be a way to do this. What about with Mozilla. If any one knows how this is done in either of these programs, please let me know. The idea is to be able to download mail on either the laptop or desktop and synch them up so they both contain the same files...
Thanks, Jason |

Mozilla's e-mail client is called Thunderbird.
What kind of e-mail access do you have? POP3? IMAP? If POP3, probably the best way to do that is to set both clients to save a copy of the message on the server. |

I have a POP3 account with outlook and I'm pretty sure my friend has a POP3 account Thunderbird. We could do it that way, but then you would have to manual delete them or keep changing the settings...
We are able to network the computers. So say I am out somewhere and I use my laptop to download my email. Then I come home and I plug my laptop into my home network with my desktop. At that point I would think there would be some way to synch up our emails... |

Whatever method you use to synch emails will not be as efficient and as seamless as following the suggestion by doctorgonzo; leaving mail on the server. On OE's account properties > Advanced settings, set it to leave a copy of the mail on the server; then you can check mark the other 2 options for greater efficiency - the first Remove from server after 5 (or whatever you wish) days, means that your mails will be removed out from the server after that OE will have assumed that you have downloaded your emails to the local drive; and Remove from server when deleted from deleted items folder will ensure that once you have purged your trash, OE assumes that you do not wish to have that mail on the server; so will erase the same from the POP3 server.
On thunderbird, go to Account settings for the particular mail account > server settings > and check mark (leave messages on server); again the next 2 options will do the same thing as above. |
