As far as I can tell Netscape 6 sucks hard on the Mac, and until I hear different, I'm not going to touch it with a 10 foot bargepole. What's the word on N6 for the PC? I am getting sick of 4.7 crashing whenever a rogue javascript snippet comes along.
BTW I am using Win2K Dogwelder |

Disable javascript, who likes banners and popups anyways?
Meantime, wait on the fed courts, and anyone you meet who admits to using Front Page should be verbally beaten senseless .I only have javascript on when it's absolutely necessary on a site I visit regularly. And even then I turn it on and off on the fly, leaving it off as much as possible. Xayd |

I have been a Netscape fan since 1.0 - and I think 6.0 sucks - but only because of AOL's bloat. The open source Mozilla version is VERY nice. I am using Opera now - and am very happy. It just ignores bad code and bad javascript.
Rick Hall has been pushing IE on these boards for quite a while now - and he has every right to do so, but I want to go on record again as disagreeing with him. I can certainly see his point - as a web designer, IE is easy to write for because of its "non standard" standards and its tolerance for bad code. |

Dogwelder,
All I can say is try IE 5.5. I'm not gonna pretend I know more than glc but all I can say is try it. I was a hardcore Netscape user for years until I just couldn't take NS 4.7 any more. IE 5.5 is much faster and I haven't had any problems with it. In fairness, I haven't used Opra but plan on trying it out. Install Opra, IE 5.5, try 'em out, and dump the one you don't like. One thing I think everyone will agree on is that NS 6.0 sucks big time.

I use IE 5.5, Opera and Mozilla. Like 'em all.
Wifey uses NS 4.74 and hates the others.

In response to GLC,
yes I have been saying the IE 5+ is better than Netscrap, but not for the reasons that you stated. First of all when I create web sites for customers I make sure that they are compatible with all browsers and that the code is not BAD CODE. IE in fact is harder to write code for because of the many functions that it supports that are not supported by other browsers. 2 examples of my latest are below and you can view them in any browser and will find that they view fine in all of them. http://www.elrexmfg.com http://home.primus.ca/~branch94 The reason that I say that IE 5+ is better than Netscrap is simply because it is. Since NS 4+ Netscrap has produced a browser that is not only slow and crash prone, but gets worse with each new release. While IE is going in the other direction. I agree with you that Opera is a very good fast browser. |

res07tg2,
It seems like most folks are using several browsers for the very reason you mentioned. If got NS 4.7, IE 5.5, and now Opra on glc's recommendation. I use IE most of the time though. |

Thanks for all the replies, I think I have the info I need.
Straight up, IE is never gonna happen. The only times I use it are during emergencies and when I'm checking to see whether a website I've created is working properly. Looks like Netscape'a bit of a bust, but I think I'll give Opera a try. Dogwelder PS Oh, and you're absolutely spot on about Front Page, Xayd. Drives me insane |
