In my opinion, Netzero will be one of the only survivors, along with Juno. Note that Netzero has cut the freebie down to 40 hours a month. Juno is doing everything they can to convert to a pay-only service.

What most people don't know is that Juno has different rules for different catagories of internet users. If you happen to be online much, you will be classified as a "power user" and you can get online only once a day, for only a couple of hours. After that, it kicks you off, and if you try to get back on, you get a message saying that you can only get back on after 4 A.M.! You can get your mail, but forget about surfing. My dad calls it "You? NO!".

I love people who post questions (such as this) which are actually GEOGRAPHICAL specific, but don't want to give a clue as to where they might be located! Especially with free ISPs, the answers tend to be LOCAL!
I believe that those in the NYC or Washington state area have a few choices for free internet service not provided elsewhere (except with a long distance call)! http://www.bluelight.com (K-mart) has an interesting plan. Basically, if you make purchases, they'll give you free internet time based upon your purchases. If you need to spend money at K-mart, it could be interesting. http://www.amexol.net will provide free, unlimited surfing to American Express cardholders...any type of American Express card will do. http://www.netzero.net is only good for checking e-mail and lightweight surfing. Your best bet would be to look for a discount service. I wouldn't touch Juno at any price. I'm currently on Frys ISP free 90 day trial (w/$9.95/mo) thereafter. But the service doesn't seem to be much better than American Express Free! AT&T World Net has a $4.95/w ad banner service, 150 hours free. That's five hours a day! Combined with NetZero, you can get almost 200 hours a month free! |
