Problems with IE.

I've got 2 PCs which are connected via a LAN and had virus/worm/trojan problems lots recently, i used various free progs to help with these, such as AdAware, Avast anti-virus and AVG anti-virus.

These got rid of some of them but had a couple of trojans that i had nightmares trying to get rid of, so because i already had lots of important downloads copied onto CDs i decided to do the last resort and format the HD and do total reinstall. However, no sooner had i reinstalled most of the programs and done all Windows updates than i had a bad case of worms.

So, i thought ***, i may as well delete whole thing again and install Anti-virus software first and see if things went better, things seemed to go ok for a while but when i ran the 2nd virus checker there were some, but i managed to get rid of them, well that's what the progs told me when i checked.

I set up the internet connection between the 2 PCs and the connection to the 2nd PC seems fine, that has no problems with browsing, however the main PC that the modem is connected to has major problems with IE lots of the time just telling me "page can't be displayed", then sometimes if i close IE and reopen it it can access the same page, click refresh a few times or when i reboot. It seems to be a Windows/IE thing cos i can access the same websites with the 2nd PC at the same time that the main one can't!

Anyone help cos i'm in mood to lob monitor out the window if i can't sort it soon?

Have you tried to ping those sites you can't use with IE?

If the ping is ok, then it's probably only an IE problem. You can try to install firefox to see wether that's working fine. (and afterwards check you're IE for exploits)

(If your ping is not ok, the reasons can be countless. )
