Angry Fire

I just bought a new computer. I am trying to find out how to copy the Internet settings from one computer to the new one. Is there any way to do this without ordering the software from my cable provider?

It depends upon your provider. Some cable companies use the MAC address of the NIC card that came with the cable connection to identify you. So with them, you would have to use the same NIC that came with them. Others it is all controlled by the modem and it doesn't matter.

Who is your provider?

Just out of curiosity, my cable provider uses MAC codes and all I have to do is phone them and tell them to clear the MAC codes in their system. It takes literally seconds to do and no charge. Is it any different with ISP's in the US?

Thumbs down New COmputer

They specifically forbid giving any help over the phone. They stated that a CD had to be sent out.

I am using @home and I can change NIC's at will and do not have to call and let them know. FYI. Springfield, Missouri
