Question IE not browsing while AOL will???

Good morning everyone!

I have an issue here, well I guess an issue a friend of mine is experiencing. On the troubled pc (which is connected to a Linksys router) is unable to brower webpages. Not all that uncommon in itself, but the wild part is that AOL is able to make a connection, and more importantly the AOL browser is able to navigate webpages.

It is a new PC with a new install of Win XP Pro and everything seems to be working fine except for IE. We have already tried to install IE again, and also tried uninstalling and reinstalling TCP/IP... No dice, the most drastic stop that we have taken to this point it uninstalling the ethernet adapter and than reinstalling it.

All together there is 4 computers on the network and the other 3 are working fine with no other reported problems, and obviously the troubled computer has a connection to the router. So we have exausted all of our knowledge on this subject and are looking for HELP.

Thank you in advance,

Anthony Jackson

What connection are you using - AOL dialup? Just general DSL or Cable Broadband shared by the Linksys router? From what I see, I think it might be the settings on the TCP/IP - set IP to automatically detect and DNS to do the same unless otherwise told by your ISP.

Sorry, forgot to mention that...

It is a high speed cable connection through a local cable provider. We have tried manually addressing the pc to the router and we still keep connectivity, however we are still unable to browse web pages in IE. Not quite sure what else to try.

Thanks again,

Anthony

I had this same problem on a customer's computer running Windows 98.

Unfortuantely, it has been so long I don't remember the solution. When she tried to get IE to search, down in the right corner it would say: "intrAnet" instead of "intErnet".

Check to see if you have the same symptom.
