double instance of OE running
I got this note from a friend. She is saying that Outlook Express reports that another instance of outlook express is running. Do any of you know what might be happening? Here is her note to me:
Alan, I hate to bother you but I am having problems with Outlook Express and I can't figure out if it ISP related or something I am doing or not doing. I have SP2 downloaded and there was no problems until a week ago. I started getting double and triple of the same emails. My ISP had me delete all my settings and retype them. This worked, now I am having problems getting into outlook express. For example when I first go on the internet and go to my emails everything is okay.,but when I close it out and go into Internet explorer then go back to check for new mail before going offline I can't get into Outlook Express matter what I do. I keep getting a dialog box that says [Outlook express could not be started because another instance of it is still running on your computer. Please log off windows, and then restart outlook express. If the problem persist, save your work, and then restart your computer] When I get this error I see an orange box in my taskbar with outlook express in it. I open my taskbar and click to end outlook express but I still cannot open it. What I have to do is go off the internet and go back on. Could all this be connected to SP2. I am not having any problems with Internet Explorer. Any information you can give me will be greatfully appreciated. My ISP is not much help. Last edited by tacoeater; 09-28-2004 at 09:36 PM. |

Check the tasklist and msconfig for anything that has "msimn" - that's OE. You might want to run HijackThis and analyze the log.
