Which website design software?
Hi Guys
I have a basic website I did ages ago which is just about me and my mates from University days. I am looking to redo it and keep updating it once a week. I was wondering what software I should use. I have good IT skills and could pick something up easily. But could anyone recomment something that does not cost an arm and a leg and that would allow me to maintain a site easily with ftp update facilities? Thanks Haggis |

If you want something free you could use notepad, but I have heard good things about Mozilla Composer, it comes with the Mozilla suite. I have used it once, but didn't see anything that really amazed me, and so I went back to notepad.
Edit: None of these offer ftp though, but if you add the ftp address into My Network Places you can save to ftp. |

I highly recommend staying away from Frontpage. Yes, it is easy to use, but the HTML it puts out is not very good at all. You'd be better served to learn some HTML and just use a text editor to edit the pages (HTML-Kit is an excellent one) and then use an FTP client (such as SmartFTP) to upload the files.

For what you want to do, I'd use Mozilla Composer - it's full wysiwyg and you don't have to know any HTML - but the raw HTML *can* be edited within the program. It has a publishing function for uploading via FTP.

I would try CutePage.
Dreamweaver and GoLive are the best but they are expensive...you can use the trials though. www.macromedia.com and www.adobe.com |
