Firefox problem
Hi,
I just started using Firefox a few days ago and am loving it. Today i noticed a few times everything gets really slow. Its like having tons of lag while surfing the web. Now when i look inside my Windows Task manager at the Processes tab, at the top is firefox.exe. Its Mem Usage is 29,616 k, the CPU goes from 50 70 while surfing. When i open a few windows or tabs like i usually do it goes up to 70-75. When i scroll around semi fast it holds at 100% CPU Usage, 98 or so belonging to firefox.exe. CPU Temp stays around 43-45C, and when the problem above happens it goes up to 55C or so. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Do i have something set wrong? Is firefox supposed to take up a lot of CPU %? Am i overlooking something stupid? Any help would be great. Thanks. Last edited by Blue; 10-19-2004 at 11:16 PM. |

No that can't be it, i use Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware like 4 times a day.
One question i have is, could anyone tell me what is svchost.exe? there are 5 of them and they take up the most Mem Usage. Well besides firefox.exe. |

I use firefox sometimes and notice that it uses quite a bit of RAM and CPU. Remember, IE is built in to windows so it's always running, so it does appear to take tat much. I noticed that when I scroll almost any page in Firefox it just hogs my computer especially page that have lots of stuff on em, only has to be text.

With Firefox just 'idling' at the opening page I show 10% cpu use. I still think you have a spyware problem. Try running the free check at Pest Patrol site.
Have you updated spybot lately? I had really slow site response before running a spyware check. Also just a reminder to defrag and dump cache. I know some people don't like Norton but I swear by their System Works for maintenace stuff. I am not familiar with the file you mention. doug |

Thanks for the info guys, it has been acting better lately, if i have any problems in the future i might just have to go with IE though.
Maybe more RAM would help, was possible going to be my next upgrade anyways. I think its a problem a lot of people have, i guess Firefox just takes a lot of CPU Usage. It really isn't a problem for me as long as i don't run tons of stuff in the background. Just watching the CPU go up to 100% is scary and it pauses a little, but if i just keep things simple and not scroll around too fast there isn't any problems. I thought it was a serious problem, but seeing that others have it too i guess its just the way it works, its not bad really as long as i just do my normal thing and not moniter the CPU usage, because the spikies only make me nervous. So once again thanks for the info guys, it has helped me out. |

Just now using Firefox my CPU kept holding at 100% and temp got up to 60 C. So i am using IE now and no problems at all once again, kinda sucks because i already miss using firefox, it is awesome.
I am starting to think maybe its time to replace my fan, maybe that could be a problem but not sure. Maybe just need some better cooling especially sence i just upgraded to the 6800 GT card. |

If you don't want to use FireFox or IE, you could always use Opera. I have never noticed CPU spikes or anything like that with opera. However, I have been running Folding @ Home lately, so my CPU is normally running at around 100%.
You can get Opera Here |
