HTML or XHTML

So XHTML is giving me hell... my problem is that XHTML only allows for logical tags in the .html file, and all style/formatting/visual aspects need to be imported via CSS. This wouldn't be too bad except I know a ton of people that don't know any of the more complicated aspects of CSS, myself included. I understand that XHTML is supposed to be "transitional" to move the WWW into XML compatible formats, but I don't understand why we can't just wait for XML....

I say go with regular HTML. Much more oriented FOR the web now, not what will be transitional towards making the web XML oriented. And most of all, HTML is much easier to write with.

CSS is not difficult to learn and does give you a lot of power. Look at
AListApart if you really want to learn the in's and out's of CSS.

I guess my big deal with XHTML is that I don't what, if anything, new it brings to the table. Can it do anything that HTML can't besides being XML-compliant??

for some people it will be of use, eg a blog site or a site that syndicates news in xml format. i got quite alot of results on google for 'xhtml advantages'. this article is quite good but theres loads more. it seems the W3 have been trying to get xhtml off the ground for 4 years now so it might just be about time to change over. ill centainly have to have a think about it.

I just made an entire site using XHTML and CSS. I am very happy with the results and definitely recommend using XHTML because eventually, HTML will be phased out.
