ftp problems
well i was getting sick of trying to email friends lots of 2MB digital pictures and other large files. so i downloaded serve-U ftp server software and went through all the set up. here is my problem. using 1 login and password, not everyone i give the info to can connect. and its always the same people that either can or cant.
example. i give the login and password to one friend and he has no problems. was able to dl 10 dig. pics. i give the same login and passssword to another friend and she wasnt able to log in. she told me it said something about not having permission. what can be causing this. do users that want to log in have to disable filewall hardware/software. cause i thought that only i have to 'disable' or forward the ports i am using please help me out, thanks brian |

Your users need to set up their FTP clients for "passive" transfers when routers and firewalls are involved.

here is something i found out. i was having everyone just use IE to log in. the people that wernt able to log in that way i had downlaod cuteFTP Home and so far everyone that has tried, it worked. That being said, is that what i will have to tell everone to do, that cant connect through IE?
GLC - if the users are using IE, does IE have a 'passive' setting? how can i get users to be succesful in loging in though IE? This way no other FTP software will have to be installled by them thanks |

That said, IE is a sucky FTP client - your users are better off using a real client. |
