playing mp3s over the net??

Hello all,

I got another problem that I have been trying to figure out, without any luck. I have a desktop at home with a large hard drive that holds alot of mp3s. At school, in my small crampted apartment bedroom I have a laptop. The laptop, being short on storage space, is liminted to the amount of mp3s tha I can keep on it. This is what I want to do...

I want to be able to connect to my computer at home and see all my Mp3s, then stream the music over the internet to my laptop to listen to. I want to be able to select single songs and play WITHOUT downloading them to my computer. I know I could use FTP to connect, see every song, but isnt my only next option using FTP to Download? (i just want to stream the music, not download)

What are my options/software options? Freeware is my 1st choice!!!

If you need clearification about what I am trying to do, just ask.

Thanks,
Brian

how about an external hd? not ultra big space hogging devices and they will allow you to keep your music with you at all times.

good idea malfun, but i got this slim server working, KINDA. here is the new problem....

on the pc that slimserver is installed, the server is running and i am listening to the stream through winamp. i called by brother and had him test it for me over the internet--- he was able to connect and was selecting songs, i heard them switch on my computer. BUT he says he is getting no sound, but it appears to be playing on his windows media player. i know he controlling it cause he was changing the songs and i can hear the new song on my computer(the pc with slimserver installed)

whats up with this??

anothre friend using winamp said he seen the EQ moving, but no sound! hmmm
