hello,
i know there was some software out that would stop ISP's from knocking people off-line. Weather it sent a packet every so often, or what i dont know. but if any one knows of any that work, I'd appreciat it. thanks |

Just set your email client to check for new mail every 5 minutes or so.

Search the Freeware sites. There's a program called 'Stay connected' that keeps sending rubbish data to the ISP so it thinks youre actively using the conection. Cant remember where I found it.

Or just ping some poor site at regular intervals through your DOS prompt

At one point, I set up the task scheduler to open a DOS box, ping 2 or 3 sites, then close, every 5 minutes or so. Sometimes this works, sometimes not, and it's hard to set up. There's another little "keep alive" prog, called (oddly enough) KeepAlive. Look for it at http://www.hotfiles.com

thank you. i'd rather not do the mail thing. i will try the alive one. and i honestly dont think i remember how to make a batch file. and i dont really want to have to come back to the pc every 5 to ping someone.
att 7/7 plan has this wonderful feature. i will be getting rid of them soon. but i wanted a isp that had Multilink PPP. found one in ErieX.com. and i really like it so far. fast connect times, and cheap. Except, of course they also have this time out feature. thanks again i appreacit all the help |
