Question Outlook Express relaying error(0x800CCC79).

Hi,

I have a small problem with Oulook 2002 and Outlook Express 6.

Just recently, we rolled over to ADSL from dial-up using the same ISP and email account. The issue is that it wont send any emails, it will though send emails to myself. The error message that comes up is:

"The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'email address'. Subject 'subject', Account: 'my account', Server: 'my ISP', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.7.1 ... Relaying denied', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79"

I rang up the server and everything worked fine on their end. And I checked and double checked all the POP3 and SMTP properties. So I spent 2 hours searching the internet for solutions....plenty of people have had the same problem. I tried all these different options that were offered as solutions with no avail. These included checking boxes about authentication and secure logins, but none worked. It has nothing to do with firewalls either because I disabled all of them and even un-installed them. I also tried restarting the computer several times and disconnecting and reconnecting the ADSL. These were alternative solutions that I found on the internet.

Is there anybody out there who has had this problem and have found a solution. Any assistance from anybody would be appreciated so much.

Cheers.........Nickuss .

You have to use the DSL provider's SMTP server, not a 3rd party server, and you may have to use your DSL e-mail address as the default "from". You can use any address you want in the default "reply to".

Thanks GLC for the response. It turned out that the guy at my ISP gave me the wrong SMTP address. I changed it and everything went back to normal.
