Any success with gmail's POP service?

Has anyone been able to successfully use gmail's POP service with an email client?

I'm not sure if it's the way I configured it or if it just doesn't like OE6, but I haven't had any success with it. Anyone here have any success (or failues)?

"Have you enabled POP in your Gmail account? We're rolling out POP access to all users in phases. Once it's available to you, a 'Forwarding and POP' tab appears on your 'Settings' page. You need to have this tab in your Gmail account before you can configure POP in your mail client."

Send a message via MSN to mikezel
Im using it with OE6 now with no problems, the only issue i had when setting it up was that i forgot to click "save settings" in the "settings" field of my gmail account once i had changed it to work with pop3.

Update: I found out the only that is not working is the ability to *recieve*mail. Sending works fine. This is certainly puzzling.

Make sure that you have SSL turned on. I just configured it to work in Thunderbird which is certainly a big plus about GMail.

Works fine here FF. Go through send settings again, do u get an error? Common issues are forgetting to turn on SMTP authentication and the SMTP send port being wrong. Also if you have an antivirus that does POP3/SMTP checks before sending, try turning it off to see if it helps.

BTW if you do get it to work, the only annoying thing I've noticed is when I use gmail to reply to a mail (the reply turns into a new message in the conversation and gets downloaded on OE).

I set up Thunderbird to do it just fine. It's not the fastest ever, I have found, but at least I can use my normal SMTP server for sending mail (much faster).

Using OE6:
Quote:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'gmail account', Server: 'pop.gmail.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
I even tried google's config tool. I can send, but not recieve, which I found odd.

Open a new "account setting" on OE - another Mail account and reconfigure it there.

That was the first thing I did, without success. Then I tried google's config tool and it came back with the exact same settings I put in manually.

*Force is puzzled*

It's been fixed. I got an email back from google support and it appears that it was a bug on their end.
