One of my friends is having a bit of a problem getting onto AOL.
The first time he dials up it gets to step 5 - 'talking to the network'. About 90% of the time his computer will hang up at this point... after killing the session (ctrl-alt-delete) and trying again he will get right on line. What do you think is causing it to bomb the first time? When I go into his NETWORK settings I see quite a few network components are installed... maybe all of these are causing some kind of hang up? It's a 'hand me down computer' from his mother... a Gateway P450. I know his mother had MSN, Roadrunner, and I think even AOL on it over the last few years... I even see a few of the installed components listed twice (AOL, TCP/IP...). What can I delete? |

All of them.
Then reinstall AOL. |

Yes, all of them. Empty out the network. Then install AOL 4.0.

Why 4.0? I only have the 5.0/6.0 discs... any difference?
