If it's a personal website, go with you last name. You can reister the domain from here.

It is not a big deal if its not a .ca!
The whole .ca thing makes me alot of times, because there are so many procedures to register a simple domain.I tried godaddy.com before and I had some issues with other domains! Any other suggestions? |

If you want a .com or .net, it's hard to beat Godaddy. That's all we use these days.

no complaints about godaddy here, their service is very good (which you get none of usually, try to call any other random domain registrar on the phone and see how far you get).

That's true - Godaddy is happy to talk to you and help - it's just not toll-free.

I have to say I agree with everyone. I have two domains now. One for a story archive site I run, and one for my own random use. The second one is a .us (just because it was half price for the first year at the time) hosted at godaddy. All I host there is the domain. The webspace itself I have with another provider, but you've got a good starting point here.
