FTP server problem
I'm trying to set up an FTP. I'm using Bulletproof FTP and I'm behind a Linksys BEFSR41 V3 Router and Norton Internet Security. Here's what I have done:
1. I set up Bulletproof FTP as directed in this tutorial. 2. I have set up my router to forward ports 21 and 500-600 to the main computer on the system, which is designated as 192.168.1.100 (mine is .102) Now, BPFTP says my server is on-line with this message: 12/2/2004 6:43:35 PM - FTP Server On-line : IP(s) 192.168.1.102, on port 21 When I try to access my ftp, (*******.dyndns.org) it says it cannot connect to server with this message: ![]() What do I have to do to get this up and running? keep in mind that I am a beginner at things like this. I checked linksys.com to see if I set up port-forwarding properly, and I have. Any Ideas? |

Why do you have ports 500-600 forwarded? I use Bulletproof also. I've always just forwarded port 21 and has worked great for me. Are you trying to access your ftp from another computer behind your router? If so, that's not going to work. Are you sure you have your permissions setup correctly for the usernames?
Edit - Also, what browser are you using? I've having problems accessing a Bulletproof FTP with Firefox. I've always had to use IE.

I have 500-600 forwarded becuase the tutorial made me be sure that they were open for the passive port. here are the 2 usernames I have set up: http://img76.exs.cx/img76/3536/8d-users1.jpg http://img76.exs.cx/img76/5922/bf-users2.jpg I do use firefox, but when I try to access ftps, I either use Crystal FTP (not in this case) or IE. My friend uses firefox and my brother is an IE fanboy. Last edited by glc; 12-04-2004 at 11:08 AM. Reason: Oversize image converted to link |

Your permissions look ok, shouldn't have any problems. Are you running a software firewall?

Are they just not able to connect or they can't access the folders? If they can't connect at all, disable NIS.

Go to Setup > Main > Advanced and uncheck "Server-to-server transfer"
All you need to forward is port 21, unless you set the server to be accessed through an alternate port. If you're behind the router, you have to connect to the server with the 192 IP number. If you're outside the router, you have to use the outside IP address (on the router, go to the status window to find out what the WAN IP is).

If you want to access the FTP from behind the router, type ftp://192.168.1.102 into your browser. Assuming 192.168.1.102 is the computer hosting the FTP.

Go into the router settings by typing its IP and check the setting there. It's usually 192.168.1.1.
Also, are you using a skin for Windows?
