Wireless SMTP
Hi all;
Am thinking about getting a nifty HP iPAQ for Xmas, one that's got built in 802.11B. As a non-laptop owner, I'm excited about the prospect of being able to access email, web, and messaging wirelessly (there are a lot of access points around here... I'm a university student). I've just got one question about something I don't quite understand... our U mail system is IMAP, and I'm not sure how SMTP will work over wireless. Do you have to find out what the SMTP address is for every wireless access point you use and apply it just to be able to send email from that point? I poked around on the internet for a while and found someone with the same question, but the reply wasn't very helpful... something about SMTP auth over an ssh tunnel. I don't know a whole lot about networking, but I'm assuming that means you can ssh into a network where you DO know the SMTP server and send via that through a different outgoing port. However, I don't know if (and doubt) that is possible through an iPAQ. Anybody have any information I could use? Thanks! NW |

School. It's an IMAP account. Currently I have a desktop, so I have the incoming mail server set to the IMAP account, and the outgoing to the SMTP account for the T1 line I have where I live.
