AOL=spyware/malware--and bloating

I recently at the request of a friend helped them load aol in thier computer,only to find it allowed for the loading of 4 additional programs.
It used to be it would only load the icon and the installer files,but these were loaded directly on the computer and I had to delete them in the add/remove center.
I cannot believe we hammer gator and search 180 (and we should) and allow aol to get by with this...my opinion-hope I vented in the right place.
