Self-installed @home cable modem, after tech ran the cable to my PC. After he left, I whipped out the Linksys Router and set it up, with plans to run cat5 to others locations in the house. My problem is this: @home provides one user account for the incoming server, but will let you add other
e-mail addys on the account. But when I try other addresses, all I can do is send, not receive. I've tried this in Outlook and Outlook express. @home only supports Outlook Express. I've tried every setup imaginable. And I go in circles with their online support. The only address that works is the user account. Now, I've checked and re-checked and made sure that I registered the new e-mail addresses online, and they show up as added. I hesitate to call tech support and reveal I have the router installed. Does this sound like a router problem? Or is this an @home problem? I don't get why the incoming mail server would only see the original address, and would not see the new ones if the router was the problem. Thanks for any advice. BTW, cable is *WHOOSH*! I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not a router problem. It's also not a crime to use a router to hook up several machines. For the most part they don't care if you use a router but if you tell them you have one they will have something to blame all of their problems on.
Are you trying to check both email addresses on the same machine? |

Thanks for replies. Yes, I'm trying to check e-mail on the same machine. I'm using my business ISP e-mail account and I'm trying to setup an @home email account so I can have large files sent to that address, and for more personal mail. Wierd thing is that when I send an e-mail to my "chosen" @home account, I don't get any "delivery-error" messages. It's like it goes *somewhere*! I think @home want to assign an IP address for each computer at ~$8.00 per additional. That's why I'd rather not inform them I put in the router.

Sorry, *the PC artist formerly known as "Ex-Static-Cling"* but I don't understand what you mean. Can you tell me the specifics of where to put in POP mail? Thanks.

Alternately
Go to START > Run > (type)
telnet yourmailserveraddress 110 A new telnet window should come up, it is likely that you wont see what u type so u cna go to options and turn on local echo but it isnt necessary anyways at the prompt type: user blahblah (where blahblah=user account that u created not ur primary one ..if its coffee@home.com just enter coffee) pass thepassword Can you log in? does it say user logged in? if so ur account is setup correctly your OE is not. |

Statica,
I sure thank you for the help. I set up my user account in hotmail and was able to retrieve all those overdue messages. So does this mean the problem is in Outlook and the way I set it up? Gotta go to work, will check back later today. |

Yes your OE is set up wrong.
Are yo u setting up the extra email addresses as New Identities or as New accounts to the same identity?? To set up as new accounts to the same identity: 1) Open OE 2) go to TOOLS > Accounts 3) Click MAIL tab 4) Click ADD > Mail.. 5) Display Name: blah 6) Select - I ALREADY HAVE AN EMAIL ADDRESS I'D LIKE TO USE enter your email address for the new account. 7) Incoming mail server POP3 fill in incoming and outgoing servers 8) Account name: the alternate username & password 9) Finish 10) select the account u created, click PROPERTIES 11) In general verify all is right there, and verify that Include this account when receiving and synchronizing is check marked 12) In servers verify all is correct there 13) The rest is all optional. To setup new identity: A) In OE go to FILE > Identities > Add new identity proceed with prompts and then go to step 2 from above. Cheers |
