Sluggish internet connection

Whenever I'm browsing the web it takes 5-10 seconds for my browser to "find" the website I'm going to, though when it does find it the actual loading is pretty fast. This happens regardless of the browser (Firefox, IE) and when I'm connecting through instant messenging software and games. It will pause for a considerable amount of time before making a connection. I am on a wireless setup, but it's only recently started happening. I haven't made any changes in my router or network settings. Even sites like google will take around 7-8 seconds to load now. Any help is appreciated.

I don't see it as a problem, mine does the same.

What's your ping times like? If your on DSL, it could be that your ISP (or your local Bell monopoly) switched your line card to Interleaved -- this usually adds about 40ms of latency to your connection.

The problems you describe can also be caused by slow DNS servers.

Mike

P.S. I think it sounds like #2 -- once it resolves a name, its cached temporarily, so it would load quick
