Unhappy Netscape freezing.....

Have a problem with Netscape - 4.76. It seems to freeze for no reason. IIt also frequently issues a message saying something to the effect that I have done something illegal and this program is going to shut down.....which it then does. And all I was doing was maybe reading e-mail or even just loggin on to the internet!! Changing websites, sending mail......it is very strange.
Anyone have any ideas?

Thumbs down

It's called a conspiracy. This is one of the reasons why Microsoft is in court and one of the reasons why Netscape, which basically owned the browser market has now been eclipsed by IE. You either deal with it, or you defect. One thing you can do to minimize the damage is to surf with java and javascript off.

In my case (I'm running win2k), I had buttloads of problems with Communicator 4.7x. I completely eradicated it and loaded ONLY Navigator 4.08 and haven't had a problem since.

I tend to agree with Dogwelder. File it in the same drawer with Microsoft conspiring against audio formats other than WMA, which Audiyoda has reported.

I use 4.74 both at home and at work. It's stable under Win2k Pro, locks up constantly under 98FE which I'm stuck with at work.

Use a different browser, a different OS, or be assimilated .

My ISP sent me a new updated version and installed the entire package which included NS 4.76. Up till then I had been using NS 4.75 with few problems. Since installing the new version I have had nothing but problems. It has never hung up, but after loading three or four pages while surfing, it will suddenly just refuse to load anything more. The only way to continue is to close it and start it up again then I'm good for three or four more sites. The other problem was the illegal errors. Get them constantly. Finally gave up and started using IE. It worked great for a while but now it is hanging, see my post IE Hangs.

I was a diehard NS user until these problems arose. But I must admit IE works much better than any of the NS vers ever did. There is not much chance that I would ever go back to NS.
