IE 5.5's cache
Is there a way to view or adjust the amount of ram IE uses?
Is this setting hermetically sealed? I see where to adjust the disk cache but not ram cache. |

Ummm... There is no special place cache is stored in RAM. If you want to adjust RAM settings (and boy have I gone over this a million times) goto the Tips and Tricks Section and goto the Post entitled: "Attention Burners!" There you will find a
heated discussion about RAM, Virtual Memory, and vcache... RAM has nothing to do with cache... cache is just what part of the HD your computer puts aside for recently accessed sites so they'll display faster the next time you connect with them. If you are wondering why IE 5 is going slow... that's the RAM being used by the program... other types of non-related cache are L2 cache and L1 cache which resides in your CPU (most of the time). These cache do number crunching and change data processes (if that's a good way to put it). Someone help me out here.

Maybe "ram cache" is a poor word choice. The reason I'm asking is because from within Netscape and IE for Macs you can adjust the amount of ram the browser has access to. Evidently IE for the PC doesn't have this setting. I'm not having a problem. Just wondered about the configuration.

the MACOS handles resource distrobution differently than PCs...in MAC you can adjust those settings as you stated but windows(intel) does not allow for such individual adjustments

I know what you are referring to - I haven't found anywhere to adjust the amount of "memory cache" in IE, unlike Netscape.

No you can't adjust that as everyone else has stated. Mac's have this as a property not just for IE or NS but practically any program can be allocated a specific amount of RAM.
