IE 6 sp1/Default Browser mixup?

Another problem for me:

I have an old Pent 2, 300 mgh Gateway system with I.E.6 sp 1 browser running Windows 98 SE, all up to date.

I also have Firefox and Opera on my system. I have the YAHOO toolbar and Earthlink Total Access. When I try to update the "ANTI SPY" on the YAHOO toolbar and get the latest update to Earthlink TOTAL ACCESS, both error, telling me that they are only for the I.E. browser, but I am using IE 6! That is where my Yahoo toolbar is located AND Earthlink Total Access brings up the IE 6 explorer.

On my Internet Options for I.E., the "Always check to see if IE is my default browser is checked on the PROGRAMS tab, and that box is not checked on FIREFOX or OPERA. But for some reason, these programs do not see IE as the deafult, or that I am using IE to access their updates!

DO I need to uninstall FIREFOX and OPERA so it is the only browser I have, or is there another setting to check to show my default is IE?

Thank you.

When you open IE does the box popup asking whether to make IE your default browser? If it does, select yes, this won't affect using the other browsers, but may solve this problem.

No --- The box does not pop up. I know the box you are referring to, and it doesn't pop up.

I have tried "repairing" IE and reinstalling it. The box is checked for it to always check if it is the default browser, too.
