Firefox, it is immune to home page hijackers?
I was just wondering if FF was immune to getting a home page hijacker? Recently I was trying to clean up a friends computer that had a lot of Trojans (ended up having to re-install) and who’s browser was hijacked and when I downloaded FF I noticed that it was unaffected by it. Do hijackers only install though exploits in IE, or is FF still vulnerable but just less prone to getting them?

IE home page hijackers are completely ineffective against Firefox. I'm sure it's possible to make a Firefox home page hijacker, but there are very few, if any, out there.

Never use the word immune... there have been hijack exploits against Firefox, so don't feel that just because you are using Firefox that you are 100% safe... that's when you'll get bitten in the hind end real fast. Take the same precautions as you would with IE.

No browser is 100% safe - there are always exploits and holes (hence the updates). MSIE just happens to be where the majority of the websurfers are so hackers and those who do not wish well of your computer tend to favor writing codes for MSIE - majority of web users. That being said, Firefox does have exploits, as HAL mentioned.

Yeah, I defiantly do not feel immune with FF and still browse safely. I was just wondering if there where FF hijackers out there (which apparently there are). It makes sense that there are not nearly as many FF exploits as IE since so many people use IE as apposed to FF.

I don't want to beat the dead horse, but it pretty much comes down to the competence of the user. If you're going to sites that you know are going to put crap on your computer and you don't have a firewall, AV, spyware program, etc. of course you're going to have problems, regardless of your browser. IE is fine in my opinion as long as you use the proper precautions. Same goes for Mozilla, Firefox, Opera or any other browser. No browser is immune or bulletproof.

I would be willing to bet more and more hackers are going after fire fox. Its become so popular. I really don't understand the workings of gecko engine that fire fox utilizes. Sooner or later they will go after fire fox. Its my opinion its not a question of if but when. Generally speaking most virus and spy ware problems can be traced back to p2p and or "freeware" which is ad supported. I myself have used IE for more than 2 years without any problems. The worst sites I have ever herd of is warez. So using IE with firewall and pop up blocker I gave it a test run. (was going to replace my hard drive anyway). Tried every warez site I could find. Every nasty site someone told me about. No problems. No virus. No spy ware. No browser hijack. 9 times out of 10 its simply the user not the browser. Have a nice day.
