Very strange...Internet Explorer/Network Connections Problem...

Hey kids,

I restarted my computer and when trying to open Internet Explorer, the home page never loads...so I tried going into Network Connections to see what's up....and my computer doesnt respond...Ok...i'm thinking this is weird...so I open up firefox and I am able to connect to the Internet with no probelm (that's how i'm able to write this email)...i can't think of what might be causing this...the only thing I have done recently is installed a router...any insight?

The difference I think that may need your attention because of now going thru a router would be found under internet options>connections tab>Lan Settings.. Check those out and now with the router you should not have anything checked there in Lan Settings. Don't know why you can not get to network connections though, but your network connection obviously works OK since you are using it with the firefox browser..

Virus or spyware, and as with both you need to be sure to have the latest updates for your virus and spyware software. I would try safe mode and see if you can get into the settings, although it may not even be a settings problem, but whatever is causing you to not be able to access the settings is probably also prohibiting internet acces thru IE. Have you ran msconfig and unchecked everything in the startup tab other than your virus scan, and have you checked task manager to see what strange things are running that you don't recognize either as services or apps??

Aaah, your firewall was the culprit. I'm thinking it was blocking your IP so you couldn't connect to IE. I think there is a way of setting rules to Windows own built-in firewall so it allows access to certain things. But if you want to avoid headaches while trying to set it rules, I'd just leave the firewall well alone and switched off.
