ping

I think I already know the answere but wanted to ask anyway.

increasing the bandwidth/speed from my isp will or will not change the ping timmings. when I ping a web sight.
I am thinking it will not as the ping is dependent on other the responses of other nodes along the route.

You're right, a ping timing depends on the speed of your connection and the speed with which the target computer responds to your ping.

Now, as far as I understand, there are several variables that determine how "fast" your internet connection is. If, for example, you operate through your ISP's proxy and they bolster their ability to process your requests faster then I would expect your ping timings to drop in general. Or, if your ISP upgraded some of their cable you might also expect your ping timings to drop. You get the idea.

Pings are mainly to test the integrity of a line or to test to see if there is a connection between point A and point B.

An increase in speed will not have an effect on your pings.

Oops! This seems pretty counter-intuative. Is this because the path a ping packet will take can not be predicted, or something more tricky?
