connection problems
I recently started having a problem with connecting to the internet. I am using a network adapter (linksys) and on the network connections, it is showing that I am connected and such. Also, when I open up IE, the page does show. However, whenever I open up apps like iTunes, Windows Media Player, and Firefox, it is not connecting. When I open up network connections, there is no icon saying internet gateway. Are my apps not connecting because of this? Any help would be great.

Welcome to PC-Mech akron_248!!!
![]() What kind of internet connection are you using (DSL, Cable)? Could you post your system spec for us? Do you have an external modem that receives your signal first then plugged into your network card? AK

I'm using cable right now for my internet connection. I do not have an external modem, the router goes to my network card directly (wmp11 802.11b).
For my system specs- 1 gig of Corsair DDR400 3.0 ghz, intel pen. IV MSI Neo2-FIS2R mobo optorite optical drive Western digital SATA 80 gb hdd Also, I might want to add, I recently put in a new 802.11g router in, replacing the B one. The problem has persisted since then (about a week ago) and now, I cannot connect to IE even or steam cannot connect. |

My router is a linksys g router.
THere is a cable modem to the router (upstairs) connecting to another computer, but the cable connects first to the router, sending signals out to my wireless card. |

Ok, the computer having the troubles with the internet, is that your 'wireless computer' receiving the signal from your router? If so, do you have a 2.4 mhz cordless phone near your computer? This would interfere with your wireless connection. They both are running on the same frequency. Move cordless phone elsewhere.

actually, i do have a cordless phone. But the thing is, the computer right next to mine is near it as well and it's internet is still working. (i'm on the computer next to mine since now nothing is working). See, Windows detects a connection, I go into network connectios and such and find that I am recieving a signal. Programs like steam and limewire have a connection, but now IE, itunes, firefox, ABC, bittorrent, etc. are not connecting.
