IRC and IDENTD router question
I've had trouble making an IRC connection so I can go to the PCMech channel lately, getting a message from the server that I need to install identd on my computer to connect. I enabled this in Trillian, but it still wouldn't work until I forwarded port 113 on my Netgear router. Is there any way I can connect without having to forward this port?

Try a different IRC server that doesn't require ident. I have 113 blackholed and stealthed, I use amsterdam2.nl.eu.undernet.org, it has a 20 second delay looking for my ident but it times out and lets me on anyway.

Thanks. That server works and I can stealth all my ports again.

Yep - I just saw you pop in twice. When you come in, why not say something? We'd love to chat......
![]() To stealth 113 with a Linksys, forward it to a nonexistent IP address, otherwise it will only show as closed. I think the newer firmware fixes this. |

I just popped in to check. I do talk when I have the time.
![]() I deleted the port forwarding on my Netgear router and went over to www.grc.com to do their ShieldsUp test, every port shows stealth now. |
