Angry Fire ////New Computer Internet Web Browser Question\\\\

I have just put together a new computer and it seems to work great except for opening a few web pages. One in particular, My Ebay page. It will open the normal page www.ebay.com but not Buy, Sell, or My Ebay. I have this computer running through a router. I have also gone to the Windows Update page but it gives me an error and will not update. Does anyone know what may be imhibiting me from being able to open these pages? It just sits there for about a minute or two and then tells me it cannot open the page. Also, I have a DSL connection and it is pretty fast. I can turn my old machine back on and it opens the page just fine.

No Syware or Adware

This is a complely new computer. Other than www.msn.com, Ebay was the second page I tried to open. However, no spyware or adware has been detected and no viruses found.

Thanks

Since you are behind a router, first make sure port 443 is open that is the secure web port those pages likely are using (https://) in the browser bar.

It may also be a problem with your cache...
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Click the "Tools" menu bar.
3. Choose "Internet Options."
4. On the "General" tab, click "Clear History."
5. When it asks "Delete all items in your History folder?", click "OK."
6. Also, click on the "Delete Files" button under the "Temporary Internet files" section (this is your cache).
7. Click "OK."

To clear your cache in Netscape:

1. Open Netscape
2. Click on the "Edit" menu of your browser
3. Select "Preferences..."
4. Click on the + to the left of Advanced in the selection "tree"
5. Click on "Cache" in the "tree"
6. On the right side of the window, click on the buttons to clear both Memory and Disk cache.

If you are using using Firefox
1. Select Tools
2. Select Options
3. Select Privacy
4. Choose Clear All
Hope this helps

EDIT: Are you using a proxy by any chance?

Cleared Cache, Still Not Working

I cleared the cache, cookies, and the history. I also cleared the forms and passwords (even though I never store passwords). Internet Explorer did open the "My Ebay" page for the first time but it would not let me logon. Progress has been made but something seems to be lacking somewhere. Oh yeah, I also increased my cache size to the maximum seeting of 32000 mB.

How do I check that port number to see if it is open?

Whoa there, 32 gigs is overkill for a temp cache!
I go with 200 megs.

You need to check your firewall and router configuration pages to make sure the secure port (443) is open. It's worth checking out.

Also this might be a cookies problem. The problem being the browser won't allow cookies. Make sure that isn't the case.

These are provided you are double-triple sure your browser isn't hijacked. Sounds like youre sure though.

Try IEfix too,

No luck so far

I am still having problems with this. Below are some facts:

1. This is a new computer and there are no viruses or spyware
2. This computer is going through a router
3. Name brand of router is D-Link
4. The new computer does open most webpages (just not My Ebay logon or Microsoft NET Passport logon for examples)
5. This is a OEM version of Microsoft XP Pro
6. It will not update from Microsoft
7. Sends and recieves e-mail just fine
8. I cannot send Microsoft an email due to this problem

New Computer Stats:
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard
AMD Athalon 64 3200+ Processor
(1) MSI nVidia 6800 Graphics Card - will add 2nd card soon
2 sticks of 512MB OCZ Rev2 RAM (running in dual channel configuration)
52x DVD/CD combo
Windows Professional with SP2
Seagate SATA HD
450 Power Supply
Altec Series 100 Speakers
