Are you running other processes while you are on the internet or doing anything else on your system?

Did this just start? I see that you are running Win Xp on 448MB of RAM. The computer may not have enough memory to be doing this. Minimum RAM to run XP is usually 512MB.

If you have a CRT, bump up your monitor's refresh rate to at least 75Hz.
Right click on desktop > properties > "settings" tab > advanced > "monitor" tab

If the monitor is real old you can also try 800x600 resolution. I would try Force Flows idea first of course. It's a better option than less res.
Just as an aside, if your PC has 448MB of RAM, that's plenty for XP. This isn't optimal by any stretch of the imagination, but for people that only check email and type documents, I upgrade them to XP with 256 MB RAM. Microsoft's minimum is 128 MB, which I take issue with, I say it's 192 minimum. Any power user will say, What? But that is only because we forget that some people go online and read an email a day, then play snood. ![]() Not that that is what your're using it for Fox, just thought I'd disagree with AK (who i'm normally in full agreement with) on that small bit. I think AK meant Optimal, not minimum. Also, and this is about as slim as the memory issue. The PC may be older right? Are you sure the PSU is up to handling a 160 GB HDD, all that RAM, graphics card etc... It's worth checking out with the PSU from that new machine. |

Check for background processes, do spyware scans. Reinstall your video driver. McAfee is a suspect here, its real time protection is very hard on resources.
Rightcoast, actually M$ minimum is 64mb, and that's a joke - but I've seen it done. XP will run okay on 128mb if you don't multitask and you use the classic interface and shut the eye candy and nonessential services off. We won't sell an XP box with less than 512 though and we recommend a gig. SP2 seems to have increased ram usage considerably. We also do not recommend XP on anything less than a P4-class machine with a bios dated 2001 or later. I doubt it's the PSU - I've got a P3-800 here with a GF4Ti4400, modem, soundcard, 2 nics, scsi card, 3 hard drives, 2 opticals, a floppy, and a tape drive all running on a 300w no problem. |

Wow, I haven't thought about it for a couple years, thought I remembered it being 128, I was wrong 64 it is. Wow, I even consider 128 a joke. Like you said GLC if you turn off luna and the bells and whistles it runs, but it isn't pretty, heh.

awesome, thanks for the quick responses! i checked my monitor refresh rate but it is greyed out, and says "set to monitors default settings". Althought the monitor is the oldest peice of equipment in the whole lot. I wonder if it is a SP2 issue, wonder if i can go backwards? probly not :P Anyways thanks again guys!
