Okay, this has been a problem for a week or so, I cannot access the domain of the .com I work for. The addy is http://www.live365.com I cannot connect via my dsl connection, my dial up connection from MSU, or the Ameritech dial up. I've tried to connect with IE 5.5, NS 4.7 and 6.01, Mozilla, and Opera 5. I'm not running behind a proxy server and there is no difference if I am running behind my router or not.
I either get a "Operation timed out when attempting to contact..." or sometimes (but rarely) "connection refused by host....". This is a pretty real problem for me since a pretty decent paycheck is involved. ANY help on this is greatly appreciated. -Craig |

Yoda, the only thing that appears to be consistent is that you are using the same computer. I didn't have any problem connecting either. Check your hosts file. If you are using W2K, it is in WinNT\system32\drivers\etc\. I can't remember where it is in Windows 98 but a search would show it. If your hosts file has something like this:
192.168.1.1 http://www.live365.com , you will not be able to connect. |

You might also try going to it via it's IP Address.
Type in 64.152.82.170 in the address bar. |

Hey, Lil Jimmie, I never noticed before about you being in Roswell. My in-laws have a ranch over in Weed, NM, about 1-1/2hrs away up near Cloudcroft.

Do you have any "speedup" programs such as Netsonic or have you uninstalled any? If so the address for that site may be wrong in your HOSTS file in the Windows folder. Open the HOSTS file in Wordpad and check. If the address is there remove it and then try the site.
EDIT: Just noticed that mairving offered the same suggestion. Last edited by Kento; 05-12-2001 at 05:40 PM. |
