Internet not working? Default GAteway?
Hi my internet is not working I have cable modem with XP. When I go to check the IP address by using Ipconfig it only shows the IP Address and Subnet Mask but Default Gateway is blank. Why? My configs are set to auto detect.

I used that software three different time. two times on my computer and once on my computer teacher's computer and it worked for me.
what that software does is that it fixes the Registries that has to do with Internet Connection. You might want to reboot after running that software ..it only takes like 5 seconds to run. |

What is the IP address that you have? If it starts with 169, then you are not getting a DHCP address from the DHCP server which would probably indicate a modem problem.
hETUL, just because something worked for you, it doesn't mean that it will work for everyone. It doesn't appear that in this case the winsock is the problem or in all that many cases really.

Do you have any third party firewall?, if yes then you might want disable it and reboot and see if the Internet works. ALSO, you give this a try Try this commands in command promp and see if it works... "IPCONFIG /RELEASE" followed by "IPCONFIG /RENEW" Last edited by hETUL; 03-04-2005 at 07:01 PM. |

Oh boy....this sounds like what happened to me last week! Did you run any spyware remover? It may have deleted some registry settings....I had to do a reformat and a new Windows XP install...hopefully this is not the case...but it does seem familiar!
Sorry! ![]() Quote:

hetful, trust me, it replicates my exact same problem. I did have Zone Alarm Pro running, but that wasn't the problem. Somehow that spyware remover removed or edited my registry...the ONLY way it could be repaired was to reformat and reinstall Windows. I tried ALL of the things you mentioned. When I ran the IPCONFIG /RENEW, the error created was there is no open socket. My broadband provider told me the minute I told them that that some registry problems had occured.
