Trojans and forums

I have a friend that runs a forum for kids through Proboards that has been getting complaints of people getting or blocking trojans when going to the board. Since I have never messed with the workings of a forum, I need some help in what steps he should be taking to find out if indeed there are trojans are his board or what may be going on. Any help appreciated.

First thing he can do is a virus and trojan scan on the server.

AVG: http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php
Housecall AV: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Trojan Scan: http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/trojanscan.asp

Then if the trojan is found, try updating the forum software, for there may be vulnerabilites.

If Proboards is providing and hosting his forum, can he still do a virus scan or is that something they have to do? Thanks for the help FF.

I would have him contact Proboards. I have a customer whose website was serving out some malicious Javascript - he contacted the host and it was taken care of immediately. Apparently the site got hacked.

Thanks all. I advised him yesterday to check with proboards. They stated that they were clean and to check images the members were posting that were hosted on other sites.
