Internet in Mexico

Sup guys!
My family and I are considering a long visit, and maybe an eventual move to Mexico. Before we do that though, I need to try and find some information on what type of net connections are available. If any of you have taken a trip down, or if there are any members here who live in Mexico, I would greatly appretiate any information you can provide.

I have only been to Baja, Cabo and Todos Santos will have a connection there, of what type I couldn't tell you, but no where else I saw probably. I am sure the mainland is different, I chat all the time with people from Mexico on IRC. I would suggest bringing an RJ-11 port of some type if possible. This is only an assumption, but dailup is probably still the most common form of connection. Of course, none of this will apply if staying in a resort or something, I was tenting it.

I was in Puerto Vallarta in November. There were Cyber Cafes all over the place. Pretty sure they had better than dial up connections..

I believe Doobie is familiar with the area as well.

My nephew lives in Mexico City. The only broadband he can get is with Prodigy, which is apparently the monopoly down there.

Doobie and NK hang around the IRC channel - Doobie lives there and I believe he has Prodigy DSL. I think that Telmex is affiliated with Prodigy, like SBC is affiliated with Yahoo. NK has moved to Canada. I get the impression that broadband is readily available, but its speed is not up to our standards and it's expensive. I also get the impression that the phone line quality for dialup is pretty bad compared to our standards. I'm guessing that around resort areas, the choices are going to be pretty decent. I don't think there is much cable broadband.
