BSOD when starting IE
I am getting a blue screen PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON-PAGED_AREA (something like that) when I open IE. The STOP error code the last time is:
0x00000050 (0xBB00C0C4, 0x00000001, 0x8054B534, 0x00000002) The crashes are frequent and always begin with 0x00000050, but it only happens when I open IE. It doesn't happen every time, but it is a lot. I can open Opera, Netscape, Mozilla and Firefox without the crashes. All my other programs seem to be fine as well. I was told by someone at one time that the Cisco software I was using for my wireless connection to the Net was a problem. It's weird that I have to install it after connecting a Linksys router so I could use both my computers -- neither would connect to the Windows Update site until I did. I uninstalled the VPN software and I could still connect to the update site. But it also did not solve my BSOD problem. I don't recall the machine having any problem with IE until I connected it to the router. The other machine has no such problem, but it would occasionally get a BSOD during restarts or shutdowns. I hope this is in the right forum. Grump |

Introduction to Stop Errors
"Stop errors in a nutshell are errors that are serious enough to cause Windows to stop. They are similar to the blue screen errors that were present on Windows 9x, however there is no option to try and resume the session in a Windows NT Stop Error (Windows 2000 and all XP members included)." You might want to get the diagnostic utility for your hard drive from the hard drive manufacturer and check out the drive. It is possible that the drive is failing and it's only IE trying to access that portion of the drive.

I tried running the chdsk routine on the next restart. There were no reported errors. I just tried to open IE again and got this BSOD:
STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xBF831ED8, 0xEDAEA554, 0x00000000) win32k.sys Address BF831ED8 base at BF800000 Datestanp 41107f7a Grump |

OK, never mind the help on this. I can't stand all the advertising and popups here, so I'm leaving. If the admin is reading, might as well delete my account so it doesn't take up space in the database. I had forgotten why I hadn't been here since I joined. Maybe it was all the ads then too. They suck.
