Go to Tools / Internet Options / Advanced / and scroll down to the Java options to click enable. Restart.

I did what you said but I didnt see the "java options". The problem is when I try to open a yahoo chat room I get this message "Your browser is unable to support Java. Please enable Java and reload or try our HTML Client". Maybe I jusr missed it, I dont know.

Dunno your version, but in v6 after clicking the Advanced tab you should see a list of check boxes. Scrolling down the list about halfway, there's a sub-heading of Microsoft VM. The first box says Java console enabled. Maybe that will do the trick.
