reinstalling IIS - XP ASP.net and inconsistency
Hi
I've just reinstalled everything on my main machine after major instability: XP Pro SP 2; I've installed .NET; I use Macromedia Studio MX 2004. IIS is installed and is working. IIS works with static pages, but dynamic ones behave oddly. I can get one page to load then connect to an access database once and go through to the results page of a search, but then when I search again, nothing. If I leave it for some time, then it may work again, once and then nothing. I struggle to see why it works once then not again. Any ideas. I don't install IIS very often - it's over a year since I did so, then some help from you guys got it working for a good long space of time. But I'm not sure what difference .NET has made, and I don't know why it works in this patchy way. The error message in IE is this: Technical Information (for support personnel) Error Type: Provider (0x80004005) Unspecified error /jashbooks/LocalUpdateResults.asp, line 15 Browser Type: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322) Page: GET /jashbooks/LocalUpdateResults.asp

It sounds like a permissions problem. Is this jashbooks a program that you have or merely a website? If it is a program, I would check with their support people.

Jashbooks is a website.
However I also seem to be having a problem with IE accessing the internet, which may be related. I am using Firefox through a proxy with no problems, but IE is not displaying pages. I don't think Zone Alarm is blocking it. I hate reinstalling windows - I always seem to have forgotten more than I remember. |

Just to update.
I have tried access this site via IIS with Firefox. Page loads, enter search criteria and it works as it should, bringing up a list of results from the database. Try to follow a further link and error page; go back and try searching the database again and errror page. Leave it a few minutes and first request works, second fails. I've obviously set something wrong, but what? |
