Pegasus/Eudora server error msgs

I can send & receive messages using Outlook Express 6, but want to try Eudora or Pegasus...I seem to have set them up exactly the same as OE, but get error msg "host not found 11001" (in Eudora) or bad address, or "failed to connect to server" (Thunderbird).
I'm on a network behind a firewall, but I think I configured the firewall to allow pop3, smtp and imap access...& I'm puzzled that OE works but these other programs don't.
We use sbc yahoo dsl, and they say the pop server is pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com; but our ip address has ameritech.net in it, not sbcglobal.net. -? I don't know enough about these things.
Any help is appreciated!
