Slow Internet - for experts..!!
Hello, I have a problem which has been perplexing me for quite some time. Here goes:
When I open Internet Exploder I get "seraching for www.(insert name here).com. Then it may or may not come up about 10 seconds later. Most of the time it just hangs up on the 'website cannot be found' page. I let MS 'detect settings and page will 'usually' load, but about 50% of the time it comes up 'half done'. I refresh, and it comes right up-most of the time. I have same problem using Firefox, also. Here is what I have used/done to try and get this fixed: Checked wiring Replaced cables Cleaned Dust Bunnies Norton antivirus - updated and scanned Trend Micro - online scan Ad-aware - with custom settings used/scaned within archives Spybot Webroot spy sweeper. Microshaft beta Crap cleaner. reboots X100--windows AND DSL modem Index.dat suite ( Index.dat file cache remover) Registry mechanic Sygate firewall. Windows firewall OFF HiJack This - Shows no non-familiar programs - No added junk to my 'puter PC Pitstop - shows great connection DSL Reports - Same thing Machine is EMachines AMD 3200+ 1024mb 2700 ram Winders XP sp1. Using DSL Last thing installed was Norton 2005, replacing my previous version, problem going on before then. Now the kicker: Computer is networked with other in bedroom. Older 'puter is Pent 3 550mhz. Winders 98. It has no issues at all. works as advertised, not a problem whatsoever accessing internet. Primary system (Emachine) does this directly connected or networked. To me, the fact the 98 machine works great, and the EMachine screws up weather networked or directly connected tells me its in the computer not the ISP. using the task mamager, there are no running processes that are unfamiliar to me, or cannot be authenticated. System acts similar to low memory or something, like it 'hangs up' or hiccups'. i am at a loss.....Currently, memory use shows 685mb available. Outlook express does not have an access problem, only internet exploder or Firefox. Any help?? Thanx in advance.

I have that problem when first booting up, unless I let the pc sit there for a few minutes after booting. What I did notice is when Firefox returns the message, I exit it then re-click my shortcut again and the page loads. Puzzles me too. Only began with the last version of FF and ok up til then.

Open a command prompt.
IPCONFIG/FLUSHDNS Search for "winsockxpfix" - download it and run it. |
