OE + XP SP2 Home, email problems

Hi
A friend of mine has just got a new computer: XP Home with SP2 & McAfee security.
He has two accounts set up.
The main one is used to access email etc, but the other also has an email account entered in Outlook Express.
The problem is that he has now got access to his 3 separate mail accounts in the main user account, but some email is not getting through, but can be accessed by logging into the other user account which has the same account - however the receiving mail (PO3) server is: 127.0.0.1., not the mail server for the account.

Any ideas as to why this is so - I didn't set this up and he says he didn't. I want all the email to go to one user to avoid confusion.

It sounds like the problem is with the McAfee security: 127.0.0.1 is the loopback address, which some AV programs use for e-mail filtering. McAfee will get the e-mail from the true e-mail server, then OE will get it from McAfee by connecting to 127.0.0.1, i.e. itself.

I don't like McAfee products. AVG is a good antivirus scanner that is free, and I haven't had any problems with accessing e-mail accounts while using it.

Hi
Thanks for that - I've just done a google search on this and came up with a similar suggestion, so I'll try from there, when next I go over.
I'm not that impressed with Mcafee which came with the computer: the privacy centre is irritating.
I have also been wrestling with an ftp problem on this machine: which was solved in part when I found that the Windows firewall had been switched back on (as well as mcafee); however I can't get the ftp to work for all programs.
