how to do a reinstall of IE?
I'm going to fix my sister's friend's computer tomorrow, and i think its probably just spyware or something because apparently everytime you try to get on the internet it says javascript error and just closes. I'm going to bring spybot and ad-aware on a cd and try to fix it that way, but i figured there is a chance IE is just screwed up. If thats the case how do i reinstall IE? I know you can't really uninstall it so i was just trying to figure out what to do.

What operating system is she using? If it's Win XP, here's what I'd try. I don't know for sure if this is the right way to do it, but I'd probably go into Control Panel and click on the"Add or Remove Programs" icon and then on the "Add or Remove Windows Components" button on the left. Internet Explorer should be one of the features you can remove by clicking on it, and then Next, and going through the process to remove it. After its done, you should be able to just reinstall IE again from whatever disk you have it on (probably her Windows XP disk). In that case you'd just go back through the same process above but pick to Add it instead of Removing it.

Unfortunately its impossible to remove IE, when in add/remove programs it will give you a option to repair, I have also seen people suggest typing "sfc /scannow" in run but i have never done this myself. There is a guide for this here: http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

I've reinstalled Internet Explorer by running the "ie.inf" file...in XP, located in C:\Windows\Inf. Right click on it and left click on Install.

A friend of mine using Win XP tried to do it by using the add/remove windows components and used his XP CD to reinstall IE. I think that solved his problem with IE.
